It’s that time of the year again when Sydney comes alive with sound and colour. Vivid Sydney is an annual event that never disappoints. Here is another view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with a bit of the Opera House sneaking in on the right. There were literally hundreds of people swarming around, so what to do when you want to take a picture without most of them in it? There are some neat little tricks. One involves taking many pictures and merging them together, using only those bits without people. With this picture I used a single shot with a relatively high f-stop (for night photography at least) and a 30 second exposure. This has the effect of eliminating people who move around and only capturing those who stand relatively still. With another picture I tried a 2 minute exposure and almost all of the people disappeared, as if by magic! I’ll be posting that one soon…

  1. Stunning shot! I missed out again this year. Maybe I’ll be there next year 🙂
