Spread’em Baby!

This is the magnificent Australian Darter. These birds mainly hunt fish and do so by fully submerging in the water for up to a minute, spearing their prey with their sharp beaks. Their feathers are permeable to water to decrease their buoyancy, which is why they can so often be seen spreading their wings to dry. This cautious fellow did just that on the banks of the Brisbane River this afternoon, proving again you don’t have to go far to observe beautiful nature!
